Knee Injections for Osteoarthritis

Specialists consulting through Naia Health St Leonards offer a range of evidence-based injection treatments for knee osteoarthritis, where clinically appropriate. These injections aim to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and improve joint function. All injections are performed by specialist doctors, and the treatments listed here represent the most commonly used options.

Cingal® is a single-injection treatment for knee osteoarthritis that combines hyaluronic acid and a corticosteroid.

When osteoarthritis develops, the natural hyaluronic acid within the joint can become depleted, reducing lubrication and cushioning.

Cingal® works by supplementing hyaluronic acid to support joint lubrication, while the corticosteroid helps reduce inflammation and pain more quickly. The corticosteroid may provide more immediate relief, while the hyaluronic acid component can help support the joint over a longer period.

In addition to Cingal®, specialists consulting at Naia Health may offer other injection therapies for osteoarthritis and joint conditions, depending on individual clinical circumstances.

The most appropriate treatment option can be discussed with you during your consultation.

  • The effects can vary between patients. Some people notice improvement in pain and function within a few days, while for others it may take several weeks. Some patients may receive little or no benefit. For those who do experience relief, the effects commonly last between six and twelve months, after which repeat injection may be considered.

  • Systemic adverse reactions to Cingal® are uncommon. As with any joint injection, there is a small risk of infection.
